Eastern AHEC undertakes programs consistent with its mission of improving the geographic distribution, retention, and quality of health care providers throughout the region. Members of the Eastern AHEC staff participate in a variety of workforce planning activities in cooperation with the other AHECs, East Carolina University, University Health Systems and many professional organizations. Under workforce planning you can access sources for health care workforce information and data. Today, most health care disciplines are affected by problems associated with shortages in workforce resources. Eastern AHEC participates in a variety of programs aimed at increasing the number and diversity of young people entering the health professions. Information about these programs and resources are listed under K-12 Awareness and Enrichment Programs. Eastern AHEC works with health care education programs at the community college and university levels to secure community-based experiences for students in many disciplines. In addition, we participate in off-campus education initiatives at the professional level. Eastern AHEC also supports the primary care residency training programs at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. More information about these opportunities can be found under Pre-Profesional, Professional and Residency Programs. |
