The Nursing Education Department of Eastern AHEC serves as a link between universities, community colleges, and health care agencies as part of a regional network available to nursing professionals requiring continuing education, technical assistance, and consultation related to practice issues.

Consistent with the NC AHEC Program, the purpose of Eastern AHEC Nursing activities is to enhance nursing practice in eastern North Carolina through education, training, consultation and technical assistance. The Nursing Department faculty, in partnership with education and practice institutions, identify emerging health care needs within the region and develop strategies to address these needs by:

• providing nursing continuing education
• providing consultation and technical assistance
• promoting undergraduate and graduate education
• promoting educational mobility options
• facilitating retention and recruitment into the profession
• promoting the goals of the NC AHEC Nurse Council, schools of nursing and other nursing organizations
